How do I monitor a WebSphere v4/5 application server?

Cause -

I require to setup a WAS application monitor as part of my performance testing.

Solution -

Before any changes are made, you will require a WAS Admin account and password, which will be used for the authentication prompt when setting up the monitor. You will also have to confirm with the WAS technical resource that the WAS Performance servlet is running, and on which port.

The following changes are required for WAS monitors on Loadrunner 7.x, 8.x

The following file will require to be changed to allow an authentication prompt to be
presented when setting up the WAS monitors :

C:\Program Files\Mercury Interactive\LoadRunner\dat\monitors\xmlmonitorshared.ini

Before Changes :

[WebSphereMonitor]
DescriptionFile=WebSphereDesc.xml

[WAS4ServletMonitor]
DescriptionFile=WebSphereDesc.xml
ServletName=com.ibm.ws.pmi.perfServlet.PerformanceServlet
ServletAlias=wasPerfTool/servlet
DlgTitle=WebSphere 4.x Monitor

After Changes :

[WebSphereMonitor]

Default access path for WAS 4 monitors:

http://10.222.48.41:9090/wasPerfTool/servlet/perfservlet/com.ibm.ws.pmi.perfServlet.PerformanceServlet

Note ip address and port may have to be changed, depending on the implementation.

Note that this change is only applicable to WAS 4/5 on AIX, and does not support WAS 6.x on Z/OS.
